Turning Around a Non-Profit (Scaling Up Case Study)
This ScaleUps.com article details how Exec Dir Ron Tompkins, 82nd Street Academics, used Scaling Up to turn around a non-profit and grow from one to five campuses. He started by having his team attend a Scaling Up workshop – then Ron became certified as a coach. Using what he learned in the turnaround, he’s now working full-time coaching other non-profits. Turning Around GE – Outperforms Apple and Microsoft in 2023
This Fortune article details how CEO Larry Culp has turned around GE using the same playbook he used as CEO of Danaher. The key? A relentless pursuit of the lean model and mindset. There are so many powerful biz lessons in this 3-minute article including importance of adding the CEO who turned around American Airlines to the board; structuring fortress balance sheets; creating single-purpose companies; but most importantly, how he showed workers that 50% improvements in productivity (vs. 10%) were possible! BTW, Nurse Next Door is featured in Scaling Up for their use of lean to spur 3x – 5x gains in productivity. Scaleups are sloppy. Clean up the slop (or SLOB as it’s often called).
