Season of Giving – InfoTrust Donated More Than $400k
From fiscal 2020 to fiscal 2022, the InfoTrust foundation has donated more than $400,000 to causes such as Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, the anti-trafficking group Operation Underground Railroad and Feeding America, which fights hunger. The company has also committed 1% of its billable time to pro bono services. How is your firm giving back to your local community (especially children’s programs)?

Bill Gates Holiday Book List 
This year Bill Gates shared five of his favorite books of all time, including Bono’s Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story released Nov 1. This CNBC article provides nice summaries of each book – worth a minute to scan. TEDx -- How to Stop Fighting Against Time 
This TEDx talk summarizes Oliver Burkeman’s huge bestseller Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals. In short, he suggests we spend too much time trying to be productive and clearing our in-box (in fact, answering more emails generates more emails!). It’s time to realize you’re NOT going to get everything done and, instead (surprise, surprise), be clear on the one or two most important priorities and focus on completing them, even if many other things get set aside. OECD Projects Growth in 2023
Chaotic, yes. Recession, who knows! The world economy is expected to grow 3.1% in 2022 and another 2.2% in 2023 according to OECD projections in this Fortune article from yesterday. Family Biz Scales from $100 million to $650 Million (Scaling Up Case Study) 
This Scaleups.com article details how Master Electronics, founded in 1967, scaled significantly using our tools. This Phoenix-based firm sells products that facilitate human-machine communication. A family affair, founder Ike Nizam and his two sons Riad (President) and Jamal (CEO), first learned about Rockefeller Habits at a 3-day YPO-hosted training event in 2013. At the time $100 million, they aimed to professionalize the firm, setting a BHAG of $250 million. Less than a decade later they have crushed that goal, surpassing $650 million. Please take 2-minutes to read what worked best in driving this scale!

“Winning Loose” – Setting Priorities
Ike and his sons came up with a clever way to set priorities. Notes the article: 

“To set priorities, they used the concept of “winning loose.” “It’s a way to rank priorities, and see if they make sense to tackle,” Riad explains. “There’s a scale of what is the impact from 1-10? How hard is it to execute from 1-10? The goal is to do things that are a 7 or above in impact, but a 7 and below in terms of how hard they are. That helps us prioritize the important things we are going to do. It’s very, very effective.”

They have also focused on hiring and supporting A-players by creating a high-performance, high-reward culture. It’s the idea of having less people paid more than a bunch of people paid less. Please take 2-minutes to read the details and discuss which of their ideas you’ll use to scale your firm.

Richard Branson – Keys to Focus 
I just discovered this “Ask Richard” piece which appeared a year ago. Richard Branson addresses two critical questions: how to balance creative thinking (lots of ideas) and focus; and is EQ or IQ more critical? To address the first, Richard details 4 ways he focuses his efforts – please take 1-minute to scan that list in the article. What feeds that process is lots of lists. Write everything down you’re thinking of (calms your brain) and then determine the next best small tasks to move the initiatives forward. This is how you accomplish a wide range of things, like Branson, during a normal day.

Richard Branson -- EQ vs. IQ
Richard’s answer to the second question: 

EQ vs IQ. In short, I think being emotionally intelligent is more important in every aspect of life – and this includes business. Being a good listener, finding empathy, understanding emotions, communicating effectively, treating people well, and bringing out the best is critical to success. It will also help you build a business that really understands people and solve their problems, and it will make for a happier and healthier team too.

$26M to $71M (Scaling Up Case Study) 
This Scaleups.com article details how Ray Bailey, after attending a CEO Boot Camp and with the help of Scaling Up Coach Mark Fenner, has scaled Lone Star Communications 3-fold the last six years. This Grand Prairie, TX-based firm supports life safety communications--helping institutions like hospitals communicate in emergencies, set schedules, etc., using one system. With a BHAG of 1,000 "rising star" employees, they are up to 285. They're using Scaling Up to unify what are now eight offices in their region, all run autonomously, unified around Core Values they set with Mark. Rapid Virus Recovery – Nebulized H2O2
So many adults and children are coming down with the flu – starting much earlier than normal. The simplest prevention and treatment is hydrogen peroxide nebulization. This free downloadable book titled Rapid Virus Recovery by Dr. Tom Levy details the research (over 1 million downloads). Tom is on the board with me of the non-profit Riordan Clinic where we’ve been serving “co-learners” (our term for patients) for 47 years. Doing the peroxide nebulization treatments on a reasonably regular basis will also normalize bowel function, leaky gut, and the microbiome for very many people. I always carry a handheld nebulizer with me in my suitcase. Here is a link to the nebulizer I use and you can also order food-grade hydrogen peroxide ($9/bottle) from Amazon as well, though you can use regular H2O2 from the drugstore ($2/bottle).

This article came across my email given my role as Vice Chair of the Riordan Clinic. The title says it all “Peer-Reviewed Study Confirms Fatal Flaw in PCR Testing: 42% False Discovery Rate for SARS-CoV-2 nonQ-RT-PCR Test. This means COVID-19 Vaccine Outcomes Rate Data is Unreliable and Invalid.”

Winging It -- Why Leaders/Entrepreneurs Don’t Plan
This Forbes article details why leaders fail to formally plan and prefer to “wing it.” Specifically: 

…feelings of power increase an individual's level of confidence in their own opinions and perspectives so that they view risk as less risky. This means that they often fixate on potential rewards and ignore potential downsides. This could lead them to wing it.

Failing to plan is planning to fail. At a minimum, you’re leaving a lot of money and time on the table just winging it. I hope you have a time scheduled to plan for 2023 (ours is Jan 5 – 7).
