Going Big, When Everyone is Thinking Small
Open the Kindle app on your phone, spend $.99, and take 2-minutes to read the “Introduction” – it grabs you with the first sentence – a couple guys (now close friends and client) are minutes from losing their $200 million portfolio of homes and under investigation by the FBI – then they pull it out by “going big.” You can skip to that section at the end of the Introduction to get a bolt of juice in your thinking. Then enjoy the rest of the book this weekend.
White-Knuckling It to White Boarding It
Hotelier and author Chip Conley (recently Elder Stateman at Airbnb) writes in his April 2 blog “Resilience buys you time; adaptability buys you a future.” You can hunker down and hold on (white knuckle it), or you can gather your team around a whiteboard and innovate – and think big. It’s why you want to be regenerative vs. resilient – to “play to win” vs. “play not to lose.” Which are you doing this 2nd qtr. of 2022?
Go Big Now – Julia Pimsleur 
I’ve been remiss in promoting Julia’s book Go Big Now: 8 Essential Mindset Practices to Overcome Any Obstacle and Reach Your Goals Founder and CEO of Million Dollar Women (I’m on her board), her book provides the science and mindset techniques to get in a growth mindset. It is time to Go Big Now when many are hunkering down due to inflation, war, etc.! You don’t see this stopping Elon Musk, who is “newsjacking” every moment, whether providing sat phones for Ukraine or becoming the largest shareholder of Twitter this week!
Dutch Use Gaming to Build Modern City
Is the Dutch city Almere the best designed in the world? I’m in Amsterdam this week for our Scaling Up Summit in Europe (sharing updates with our hundreds of clients in the region). This week I learned about this innovative city built partially using a game-based initiative Play the City. This BBC article provides details and beautiful pictures of possibly the most innovative and livable city in the world!
